Hey everyone, JD Houvener here, founder and patent attorney at Bold Patents.
I’ve got a fun update to share with you today. One of our clients, Jonathan Crosby, out of Charleston, South Carolina, just got his patent granted, and it’s a smart one. He’s come up with a heated high chair. Yep, you heard that right.
If you’ve ever tried feeding a baby, you know how tricky it can be. One minute they’re hungry, the next they’re tossing food like confetti. And often, the problem? Cold food. Babies are picky eaters, and temperature matters more than you’d think.
Jonathan saw that problem firsthand. His idea? Keep the tray of the high chair warm, just warm enough to stop food from going cold while the baby pokes around or takes their sweet time. He embedded a heating element right into the surface of the tray (or another feeding surface), using battery power to keep it simple and safe.
Now, your first thought might be, wait, won’t that get too hot? Fair question. But no, it’s adjustable and designed to stay at a safe, baby-friendly temperature. Just enough to make peas more appealing.
What’s also cool is how broad the patent claims are. The heating tech isn’t new, but the way Jonathan applied it is. Our attorney, Christopher Mey, helped lock in protections that go beyond just the tray; it could be any part of the feeding surface. That flexibility gives Jonathan some solid ground as he moves toward bringing this to market.
So, congrats to Jonathan on the patent, and big kudos to Chris on the legal side. We’ll be following up soon with more on Jonathan’s next steps as he starts commercializing the high chair.
I’m JD Houvener. Thanks for watching, and as always: Go Big. Go Bold.
