Today, we’re celebrating a win. 🎉

Oscar Cruz just had his patent approved: U.S. Patent No. 12,213,639, a footwear cleaning device that’s actually useful. Think about it: You’re out golfing or hiking, your shoes are muddy, and you don’t want to bring that mess indoors. Scrubbing them by hand? Not ideal.

Oscar came up with a better way.

His invention is an automated shoe cleaner. No bending down. No stiff wire brushes. Just step in, and the device does the work for you.

Let me show you what it looks like…

Patent attorney Chris Mey worked closely with Oscar for over a year to get this granted. It’s now officially recognized by the U.S. Patent Office, filed out of Oxnard, California, and approved in February 2025.

Here’s what’s inside the patent:

  • A box with an open top
  • A motor that powers the system
  • Brushes that spin and scrub
  • Nozzles that spray liquid (usually water) from multiple sides

These simple parts combine to create a practical, broad utility patent, meaning it covers more than just one specific version. That’s the kind of protection inventors want.

Claim 1 lays it all out in plain terms. Later claims drill down into the details, the number of brushes, the nozzle angles, and so on.

Big congrats to Oscar. 👏 This is a huge milestone, and we can’t wait to see what he builds next.

If you’ve got an invention, whether it’s in footwear, software, or something totally different, we’d love to help. Our team can run a patent search and see if your idea has legs (no pun intended). If it does, we’ll guide you through getting it protected.

I’m JD Houvener, founder at Bold Patents. Thanks for watching, and as always…

Go big, Go bold.
