I am jd governor and uh an owner and managing partner here at bold patton’s law firm i want to introduce our guest today uh he is a employee here at bold patents and it’s a real honor to go have an employee be brave enough and uh you know creative enough to want to come on and do a show like this uh he is cody mack and he is an advisor uh he is the first voice a lot of our inventors get to speak with and so if you’re thinking about getting started maybe you’ll get a chance to talk with cody mac um i am uh just blown away with how how personable he is and how well he takes care of our client i want to give people a feel for you know that we’re actually people right i mean it sort of seems funny but in this age of virtual and especially cobin it’s important to showcase who we are and uh so cody i just want to bring you on to have you share what it is that you do you mind kind of walking us through what what you do on a day-to-day basis so on a day-to-day basis um i really have the pleasure of talking to anywhere between eight to sometimes 15 new people every single day and it’s really really exciting because i get to hear you know really the full spectrum of things right people just getting started right maybe they were scrolling through facebook they have an idea for an invention they’ve never explored this before they don’t know anything about patents yet they’re just getting started they give us a call and we get to get them set up with some basic resources you know get them off on the right path because one of the most challenging things that we find especially for people in that you know part of the spectrum is that there’s so much information out there our whole thing here is trying to make it especially easy for people who are just getting started right right you know if i was putting myself in some issues maybe i’ve got a full-time job and i’m nervous about getting started and so tell me are the people you talk to would you say uh like the first and first time in inventor types do they have like a prototype do they have a company started i mean how far along are they or do they need to be to really get get things wrong well you know that’s one of the things that uh i find to be very very broad as far as what people kind of come to that session with you know some people um they’re kind of in that you know like you described as kind of like that old mentality with the way that the law used to be where like you need a patent or you need a prototype you need a product you need this thing like working i need a proof of concept i need a functioning device before i even talk to an attorney and you know kind of having to break the news to people like hey it might not be the most effective use of your time you know you might want to talk to an attorney before you spend countless hours and you know hundreds of dollars working on this prototype because you know you might talk with jd or tom and they find out hey you know what this might not actually qualify for a patent and you know kind of having to break people the hard news or the tough news sometimes actually ends up saving them a lot of time and money and you know i think that people actually do kind of appreciate that when they kind of come over prepared or they’re kind of preparing in the wrong direction and we’re kind of able to steer them back like hey you know what consume these resources check these out you know see if this is really the right way that you want to go for this because it all depends on your goals so that’s really where we start that conversation is with your goals because some people they just want to get a patent for the internal satisfaction right they just want to patent up on their wall you know other people they’re trying to make a million bucks you know they’ve got a viable piece of technology and they really want the right guidance so that they can maximize that return on their investment of getting a patent you know the time and money so it just really kind of starts with establishing for themselves for the inventor and then me being able to kind of understand that what direction do you really want to go with this because there’s a lot of different ways that you can take this path you know like i get to feel like i’m a part of you know helping people get what they need so that they can really achieve these visions and build these dreams and uh you know get their product to the market and you know have success sometimes even greater scale than they ever imagined and getting to sign them up with qualified attorneys and things like that i mean it’s like uh just being a part of that and being a part of that process that’s been really probably the most uh most amazing thing you know it’s fun it’s you know it’s a it’s a good job but you know it’s really cool that i get to like be a part of something too you know the job’s more yeah oh that’s awesome thank you cody so good to hear from you thank you it
