Patent Attorney and Founder

Hi, everyone! My name is J.D. Houvener, and I’m your host on the Bold Today Show, where inventors, entrepreneurs, and business owners get their daily dose of inspiration to make the world a better place. Today, we’re discussing patent law in part 3 of our 10-part series, focusing on the different options available for patent searches. Bold Patents, being a team of patent attorneys, offers what’s known as a patentability opinion. In this week’s discussions, we’ve been exploring alternative options logically and systematically.

On Monday, we considered the option of not doing a search at all, emphasizing its validity but pointing out the drawbacks. Yesterday, we talked about doing a search on your own, acknowledging it as a good starting point but cautioning against stopping there due to risks and limitations. Today, we’re exploring another option – working with a service like LegalZoom or a cheap online provider such as Rocket Lawyer.

However, the challenge with these services is that the work is conducted by non-attorneys. The resulting search reports are often limited and lack a legal opinion. For instance, LegalZoom may provide an extensive report with pages of patents related to your subject matter, but without interpretation or guidance. The key issue is the absence of a legal opinion, as these providers lack attorneys to assess and provide clear direction.

Choosing a cheap online provider can leave you questioning the thoroughness of the search, spending time and money without a definitive answer on patentability. So, please consider exploring your options further by booking a free 30-minute consultation with our firm. Visit us online at boldpatents.com or call us at 800-849-1913. I’m your host, J.D. Houvener, signing off from the Bold Today Show. Have a great day, everybody, and remember to go big, go bold!
