Hi everyone – J.D. Houvener here, CEO and managing partner at Bold Patents Law Firm. I want to give you a brief update on our 2018 Young and Bold Scholarship. We have recently selected our second winner, and I wanted to make that announcement here today.
For those of you who may not have heard about our scholarship opportunity this year, we announced it at the end of the year and received over a hundred applications from high school students around the state of Washington. We were looking for high school students who had been accepted to either four-year universities, community colleges, or professional institutions and had an impact innovation idea or project. This could be a course, a senior project, something in school, but it could also be something they did outside of school. Another element we considered was ensuring it was a project that had a significant impact on the community.
After reviewing all those applications, I am excited to share with you who the winner is. Hold on for just a minute.
Next year, we’re going to be doing the same thing. So if you know anybody that’s in high school, going to be a senior graduate next year, please forward them this video and get the information they need.
To be eligible, you had to submit a 750 to 1,000-word essay describing what this project is all about and how it made a huge impact in your community. You also needed to make a compelling reason as to why it’s innovative and why we should select them. The application process has a separate email, and there’s a flyer on our website at boldpatents.com. You can navigate to the part of the website under the About Us category down to Scholarships.
And here it is, our second winner – Rain Tanner Elly out of Ellensburg, Washington. She will be attending Lesley College on the East Coast in Lesley, Massachusetts. She went to Ellensburg High School, and her project was the very beginnings of what became Supernova Robotics. It began as a club within her high school, providing training in computer-aided drafting, engineering mathematics, and mechanical design for robotics competitions.
Rain’s initiative to start this club four years ago filled a need in the community, and it has evolved into a legacy for the high school. We are proud of what she has accomplished, and we wanted to award her this scholarship.
