Hi everybody, I’m J.D. Houvener, your host of the Bold Today Show, where you, the inventor, entrepreneur, or business owner, can get your daily dose of inspiration to make the world a better place. Alright, we’re in part three this week, talking about patent applications and your different options as an inventor or business owner.

On Monday, we talked about the option of doing nothing, leaving yourself open for competitors to take the market share. A little better than doing nothing is doing it on your own, but it’s fraught with errors and can cause more harm than good.

Today, we’re talking about another incremental step, which is to use a company like a cheap online service, such as LegalZoom. Let’s dig into that a bit. Who are LegalZoom and what are their counterparts like Rocket Lawyers? These are inexpensive ways to get your application filed, but they take shortcuts by not using attorneys. They often employ ghostwriters or copy editors, and only a patent agent files the paperwork. However, much of the drafting, including specification, drawings, and claims, is done by individuals with unclear qualifications.

Clients who have used these inexpensive online resources often end up with a lack of effort and a document that covers only one version of the invention. It usually lacks detail on different alternative embodiments, and the claims are narrowly crafted just to get past one examiner, checking the box.

At Bold Patents, we have patent attorneys who understand the law and craft specifications to extract as much value as possible. We consider potential litigation and position your application strategically for enforcement. Our attorneys have the knowledge to read case law, ensuring that your specification is in your favor during litigation.

So, if you have more questions about patent applications and want to choose the right route without taking shortcuts, talk with a patent attorney. At Bold Patents, we offer a free 30-minute consultation. Visit our website at boldIP.com or call us.
