One of the most misunderstood aspects of HIPAA is that potential HIPAA violations are very expensive. This is something that new practice owners can be exposed to huge amounts of liability, tens of thousands of dollars per infraction, and it’s its own beast. So, we really recommend that our clients work with a dedicated managed IT or managed IT consultancy firm to get their networks set up, to get their data storage set up so that they’re in compliance with HIPAA. You can’t just use your run-of-the-mill Geek Squad, so to speak, to set up your internet and your record storage and things like that. You need to make sure that you’re fully compliant because the fines, penalties are so steep.
