Hi everyone, I’m J.D. Houvener, your host of the Bold Today Show, where you, the inventor or entrepreneur, get your daily inspiration to make the world a better place. Today, we’re talking about something that’s a blast from the past. [Music] It’s the Super Soaker. It’s summertime, right, and so we’re all enjoying the hot weather or at least trying to stay cool. And what a better way to do that than to plan some fun games with your kids, or maybe you’re a kid at heart and you want to pull out the Super Soaker and have a fun time.

I’m gonna dedicate 10 of these sessions to diving deep into sort of honoring the inventor Lonnie Johnson. Lonnie Johnson was a co-inventor of the Super Soaker that we know today. Way back in 1991, he invented the air pressure water gun that could produce an extreme amount of water at a large distance, way further than those little handheld ones that we were used to before. So Lonnie’s picture is right here. In fact, just two years ago, the Super Soaker was one of 50 toys that is now part of what’s called the Toy Hall of Fame.

So, this week and next, we’re diving into the patent that was issued in 1991 to Lonnie Johnson and was eventually licensed to Nerf and Super Soaker brand as we know it, looking at every single aspect of that patent document. And we’ve done this before, but I want to make sure we give it some light, have some fun with it, and think about something that we all could use a bit more of this summer – stay cool, blast, have a good time, and let’s have some fun this couple of weeks, alright?
