Patent Attorney and Founder
Hi, I’m J.D. Houvener, owner, and founder here at Bold Patents Law Firm. I want to let you in on a little bit of background on me so you have some insight into what our foundation is all about.
I started out as an engineer working at Boeing in the aerospace industry. I worked on the design team that helped structure the 787, which is the first fully composite airplane ever. While it was exciting, being in a big company and stuck in that box just wasn’t for me—right in a cubicle. I needed a way out, and maybe you feel the same way.
So, I decided to go to an MBA curriculum and got my business degree and started dreaming big. I found out after watching one of my favorite shows, Shark Tank (maybe you’ve heard of it), one of the things they always ask about is, do you have a patent on that? Is what you have unique? How are you differentiating yourself in the market? And I kept hearing about this patent thing.
So, I went to school to learn all about it. I finished law school from Seattle University in 2014, and right when I finished, I knew I was going to open up my own firm and do things differently. Small inventors, solo inventors, just like you, are disserviced by big law. They just don’t have time for you. You’re lucky if you get an intern or a brand new associate to work on your case. That’s no good for me. Inventors deserve the best, and so that’s what we have done here at Bold.
